One-to-One Tutoring

Artful Tutoring has always aimed to make our tutoring services the very best of their kind.  One-to-One tutoring is highly individualized for maximum effectiveness, and has been made as convenient and as flexible as we possibly can.

So, where do we meet?

With our goal being to make these meetings as convenient as possible for both students and their families, we come right to you!  For most of our students, the most convenient option is meeting with them right in their homes.  However, if another public place such as a library or school would be more convenient, we would be happy to meet with you there.  (We try to avoid the noisy neighborhood Starbucks, though!)

Can We Meet Online?

Absolutely!  Many students (and parents) prefer that we conduct our meetings online, and we are very happy to accommodate you!

We have found, over the course of this year, that online tutoring can be extremely effective.

However, some students (and parents) will prefer meeting in person.  Please note that if we do meet in person, we will observe all safety protocols, including wearing masks and maintaining an appropriate physical distance.

When can we meet?

Lots of options.  We keep hours for our students seven days a week, for starters.  On weekdays, we can meet with you either after school or in the evenings.  We’re really very flexible about hours.  Evening meetings, for example, could start at 6:30 or 7:15 or really, whatever suits you! On weekends, we can meet virtually any time of day:  morning, afternoon, or evening.

And how long are the sessions?

Over the years, we have found that a two-hour session is the ideal standard.  Enough time to get a lot of work done, but not so long as to be tiring.  We have tried both longer and shorter sessions, but neither one has proved to meet our high standards.  (We notice that Avengers:  Endgame is 3 hours, 1 minute long, so we think we are within the boundaries of what is acceptable!)

How many sessions will we end up doing?

That’s hard to predict.  There are a few different variables involved, such as what your skill level is at the present time, what colleges you are interested in applying to, and how long before your scheduled test date.

With that said, for most students, we will conduct about ten to fifteen sessions.  Give us a call and we can discuss your specific situation in detail.

Is there going to be homework?

Yes, absolutely. The homework that you do will consist of practice sections of real tests where you get to try out, on your own, what you have learned during your sessions.  This is the most important part of the course – even more important than the sessions themselves.  You can expect a homework assignment that will take about 2 to 3 hours, each week.

What are the costs?

A) If you just need a few sessions to tweak your score here and there, we can work with you on that basis – very few services will do that. You can simply pay as you go, paying for each session as we complete it.

Base Fee for Each Two-Hour Session is $250 ($125.00 per hour)

B) For students that only need to focus on one area of instruction – whether that is Reading, Writing, or Math, we have available a six-session package, a total of 12 hours of private, tailored instructions, at a nice discount of $200.

Six-Session Package is $1300 ($108.33 per hour)

C) Some students require a more comprehensive approach to their learning project, perhaps needing improvement in all testing areas. We have put together a twelve-session package, a total of 24 hours of in-depth strategic advice covering all test facets, with a discount of $500.

Twelve-Session Package is $2500 ($104.17 per hour)

D) And finally, for the student who wants to do his or her absolute best, and can make the commitment in time and effort to fully showcase their skills, we designed an eighteen session package, a total of 36 hours of detailed, problem-by-problem approaches to getting even the super hardest questions correct, and we discounted that by $900.

Eighteen-Session Package is $3600 ($100.00 per hour)

How do we pay?

Once again, flexibility and convenience are the keys, for us.  We can accept cash, check, credit card, Venmo, Paypal, Zelle, and if there is another payment method that you have in mind, we can probably take that, too!

Can I change my scheduled lesson times?

With enough notice, you certainly can.  It’s very hard for us to adjust our schedules and our students’ schedules on a last minute basis.  However, if you see an event on your time horizon that will interfere with tutoring, and you can let us know about it promptly, we can probably rearrange things for you.

What if I need to cancel a lesson?

Things do come up.  We understand this, and we want to try to be considerate of your needs.  But also, please be considerate of us, as well.

It’s important to maintain momentum in a program like this, and so meeting regularly is one of the keys to success.  If you do find that you need to cancel a lesson, we will work with you to try to reschedule that lesson, so that we can maximum the value you are getting from the program.
